I
found my 16 valve motor at a parts supplier in the
Atlanta area. The motor supposedly had 89K
miles. I purchased it with the exhaust and
everything necessary for the the swap.
I went ahead and replaced the belts along with the
clutch and throughout bearing.
This swap was appealing to me for several reasons.
One, this would give me about a 30 hp increase (158
hp to 187 hp). Two, I could essentially make the car
an 1987 944S replica.
Most of the
differences involve the ignition system, including
the addition of ballast resistors and a final
ignition stage. Also, the 944S DME needs an
additional power source wired through the Fuse box.
